Vacation Essays

124. What outrages you? (Wake Forest)

When the bad guys lose to the good guys.

There are many movies out there where the hero saves the day by defeating the evil man. However, many times these bad guy characters are portrayed as unorganized, idiotic, power-seeking men that always end up getting defeated by the great, smart, good-looking hero of the city. Why must so many movies end with a happily ever after?
After having watched many movies where this happens, I wish the genius bad guy would win for once. So what if the world falls into chaos and destruction. The hero can't will all the time. There has to be a point where they fall and the hopes of the city are bashed along with the physical world.
But no. It seems that just doesn't happen in movies.
No matter how close the villain gets to reaching his goal, it is shattered and destroyed by the heroes of the day, which also results in the villain getting killed.  If not, he is captured and there may be a sequel where he breaks free and the cycle starts again. But in the long run, they are crushed and defeated and there is peace and tranquility throughout the land.
It seems to be that many times one of the reasons why the bad villains do no win is because they just are plain stupid. Many of these characters are not smart and clever enough to create a master plan that will be indestructible. The hero, of course, is easily able to figure out and defeat them before the real damage can take place. The hero also usually has people helping and supporting him along the way.
In the end, people want safety and security for their own well-being and that many times does not happen to be on the villain's agenda. People want a figure they can follow and trust to keep them safe. A hero has the support and ideals to defeat evil. However, the villain must fight these statues that have kept peace and order and defy all the forces that are in work to defeat him. So the villain has the odds against him. Bummer.
I still am looking forward for that movie when the evil villain will conquer the world for good, but I do hope that never happens in reality.
